Garmong Construction is pleased to announce the advancement of Brian Kooistra to Executive Vice President. Brian will be responsible for all aspects of project delivery across the company. He will also oversee safety management and union affiliations.
Congratulations, Brian! Todd Thorlton is an Indiana State ’89 graduate who has been involved in the construction industry his entire career. Working in Outside Sales at Wabash Valley Supply, Probuild, and ABC Supply, Todd has made his selling prowess known in the Wabash Valley. After spending some time with Thompson Thrift, he has made his way back to Outside Sales with L&W Supply. Congratulations to Todd and L&W Supply for their exciting news! Did you know that WVCA Member, Anna Wetnight, a Farm Bureau Insurance Agent, has been named one of the top ten agents in the state of Indiana for the last ten years?! At Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, Anna Wetnight Agency, her team specializes in home, auto, renters, life and commercial and farm business. Last year, Wetnight moved her agency to Downtown Terre Haute. “Downtown Terre Haute has been rebuilding and it’s exciting to be a part of it,” she said. “The amount of attention to detail has been impressive and exciting.” Wetnight and her team spent eight months in 2021 cultivating business in Downtown and rehabilitating a historic building. The building, which was built in the 1800s, was the original Terre Haute City Hall and later played host to a grocery store, a Kawasaki dealership and Vigo Discount Tire. For forty years, the building sat abandoned, waiting for Wetnight to swoop in and begin her next adventure. And what an adventure it has been! Wetnight claims 2021 had been her agency’s best year yet, and she looks forward to what is to come in 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic drew attention to the services Wetnight offers and what is most important to her clients. “COVID really effected the industry. We had to find new ways to connect with our clients,” she explained. “Virtual meetings and adaptations really introduced a different way of doing business.” This pandemic has been hard on everyone and has forced many to consider or reconsider insurance plans. Wetnight’s agency offers Return of Premium Life Insurance. Those who pursue this unique policy make payments for 20 years then give all the money back or take a reduced paid-up policy and never have to pay on it again. Wetnight hopes access to this information will help other local business owners, like herself, make wise life insurance decisions. Congratulations, Anna on a successful year! The Holidays are right around the corner and WVCA wants to highlight one of our community minded projects that is close to our hearts. The construction of a new ADA Compliant ramp at 14th and Chestnut increases access to the center for children in the neighborhood, especially this Holiday Season. WVCA Members on this project included:
We want to take this time to thank all our members who worked on this project. With everything 14th and Chestnut has done and continues to do for our community, we are happy be a part of their efforts and successes.
Thank you to all the members who attended the Annual WVCA Christmas Party last week. After having to cancel the party in 2020, it was wonderful to have everyone together again. The Wabash Valley Contractors Association Annual Member Christmas Party will take place on Friday, December 3rd, at the Indiana State University Banquet Center. After having to cancel last year, we are very excited to bring back one of our favorite events. Cocktails will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. There will be door prizes and 50/50 tickets available for purchase. Join us for great food, entertainment and fabulous door prizes at the 2021 Christmas Party!
The Wabash Valley Contractors Association (WVCA) reflects on their successful 2021 Annual Scholarship Golf Outing held earlier this fall. This year, 29 teams composed of 116 golfers gathered on the course to raise money to benefit the WVCA scholarship program. “It was another exciting year of golf and raising money for a great cause,” states Bill Hann Jr., Board President, WVCA. “Our annual golf outing is an opportunity to support our future workforce. We appreciate the continued generosity and support of our members.” The success of the WVCA Scholarship Program is largely a result of the golf outing’s sponsors. Terre Haute Chevrolet, MacAllister Rentals and Top Notch sponsored this year’s event, as well as many years prior. Scholarship recipients must have a parent who is currently employed by a WVCA Participating Organization. Furthermore, they must have a minimum GPA of 2.50 and be entering their junior or senior year of a four-year college or junior or vocational college. WVCA is currently accepting applications for their Spring semester, with applications due December 1, 2021. Applicants are encouraged to apply at www.wabashvalleycontractorsassociation.com/awards. Thank you to all of our members who attended the October dinner meeting, featuring guest speaker Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen. Police Chief Keen spoke on the development of the new Police Department and the Police initiatives taking place in and around Terre Haute. Congratulations to Garmong Construction Services and other member companies on the completion of the Terre Haute Police Department. A formal ribbon cutting occurred last week as the project came to a close. Those in attendance included Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett and Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen. The project consisted of the remodel of an existing 42,288-square-foot, two-story facility and the addition of a 2,712-square-foot sally port. The new location includes administrative offices; evidence intake, storage, and processing labs; detention areas that include hard and soft interview spaces; a fitness center; and a community room. The new sally port features two impound bays; vehicle maintenance area; motorcycle storage; K-9 kennels; and bicycle rack storage. The Golf Outing was a success! Thank you to all who participated in the 2021 WVCA Scholarship Golf Outing. A special thank you to our sponsors Terre Haute Chevrolet, MacAllister Rentals and Top Notch. |
